Hi Bill,

I would like to make you and your fellow Port Washington SC coaches aware of a new book offering geared specifically to youth soccer coaches -- a resource that should fit in very well with your club's philosophy and approach to working with players, and help make good coaches even better!

It is entitled, “How Well Do You Communicate?  A Guide to Better Communication with Players and Parents for Minor Soccer Coaches”, written by Michael Langlois.  Michael is a long-time (since 1976) issues management and communications professional who advises a wide-range of corporate and sports clients, including a number of amateur sports organizations and NHL coaches.

Michael tailored this book specifically to the youth soccer experience, on the heels of the publication of his very successful hockey book called “A Guide to Better Communication for Minor Hockey Coaches”.

The feedback and endorsements we received were so positive and heartfelt that Michael has developed a soccer-specific Guide, recognizing the tremendous growth of the sport at the youth levels in both the United States and Canada.  Though this book is brand new, we are already receiving wonderful feedback, including from the NSCAA in the United States -- and this comment from Jim Cannovan, the Technical Director of the Ontario Soccer Association.

“I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to read the book . I think it is a tool that all coaches can use -- regardless of sport .  I particularly enjoyed the comments in chapter  5 — Communicating and Interacting with Parents .”

Even if your coaches only picked up one or two important ideas or approaches, it could make a huge difference to them -- and their young players.

Michael brings to his writing not only his extensive experience as a communications professional, but as a long-time (25 years) sports parent.  One thing is clear: the need to communicate thoughtfully and well with youngsters is incredibly important.  This book can make such a difference to coaches, parents and most importantly, those young players.

(As an aside, many hockey associations, teams and organizations have written to us after purchasing and reading one copy of the youth hockey coaches  Guide — and then placing a larger order.  They have indicated to us that many youth coaches don’t think they need this kind of book, but those are often the very coaches who need it the most, for the sake of the children.  I sense the same thing may apply in the soccer world!)

I invite you to visit our web site at

                          http://www.beyondthegame.net

The book sells for only $20 U.S., but we offer Canadian purchasers the opportunity to pay in Canadian funds if they pay be cheque.  (The $20 cost includes applicable taxes and S&H.)

We also offer preferred pricing on large orders.

We hope you will consider purchasing copies for your coaches.

      Thank you!

Mary-Louise
